Cleveland Receives $25,000 Grant To Create New Dog Park

The city of Cleveland has been selected to receive a $25,000 grant for the creation of a new dog park. The grant is being funded by the Boyd Foundation as a part of the foundation’s Dog Park Dash grant program to make Tennessee the most pet-friendly state in the United States.

Cleveland was one of 36 recipients of this year’s Dog Park Dash grant. Over 50 applications were received from communities across Tennessee.

The Boyd Foundation will have a check presentation Saturday at 3 p.m. at the future dog park site behind Blythe-Bower Elementary School, at 298 Foster Lane. In the event of rain, the location will be moved to the Cleveland Municipal Building at 190 Church St. NE.

The public and their pets are invited to attend. All pets must be on a leash.

Authorities said a Hixson man shot and killed his 15-year-old son on Saturday night. A report says Mike McElrath, 46, who was found naked at a neighbor's house, also killed the family dog.
