Helton More Than She Appears

Wednesday, July 11, 2018

I’m so over Jonathan Mason and his attacks on Esther Helton.  Mr. Mason uses the line about Ms. Helton voting for Obama every chance he gets, and its sad.  So what if she voted for Obama twice?  Some people can respect the fact that she has the vision to see beyond party lines.  It's not a black mark for all eternity that she thought and respected what he had to say and hoped he would bring the change he promised when he ran.  Voting for Obama doesn’t change the fact that Esther Helton loves this area and is a bright shining member of this community.  It does not make her vile, or break her down at all.

I understand that Ms. Helton wasn’t endorsed by the Tennessee Right to Live political pac.  That's because she didn’t fill out the paperwork to ask for their endorsement.  It doesn’t change her belief in being pro life.

I’d like these two to stop trading barbs and start trading ideas.

Ms. Helton, I know you're the front runner, but it pains me to see you constantly spinning truths instead of stating ideas.  We get it, you voted for Obama, but besides that you voted Republican 85 percent of the time. You don’t need to spend any more time spinning, barbing, fighting or bickering.  Let's see an honest and true debate, a conversation, a forum where we can hear ideas, not platitudes.  Where we can ask how you intend to push the lives of those in District 30 forward.

I spent a lot of time talking to Esther Helton when she was running for the city of East Ridge and I know how passionate she is for people and for improving the lives of others.  I wish she would spend a little less time with her spin doctors and more time with the people of District 30.  Lets have a debate and show everyone talk is cheap.  Esther isn’t some ex-trophy wife who worked just enough to keep an LPN license, she’s a bright and shining star in our community.  If she was sent to Nashville she would be a force for real positive change in our community.
