Covenant Men's Soccer Finalizes 2018 Schedule

Tuesday, July 10, 2018
The Covenant men's soccer program, under second-year head coach Scott Bosgraf, has finalized its 2018 schedule. The Scots are slated for 19 regular season matches, with 10 of those taking place at Scotland Yard.

The season opens on Aug.
31
when Covenant hosts the David Taaffe Invitational against NAIA member Tennessee Wesleyan at 7 p.m. The Scots conclude the opening weekend with a match against Millsaps on Sept. 1 at 2:30 p.m. This year will be the third installment of the David Taaffe Invitational, dating back to its beginning in 2014.

The invitational will feature one neutral site match between Maryville and Millsaps on Aug. 31 at 4:30 p.m. at Scotland Yard.

The Scots then hit the road for three straight matches. Covenant travels to Sewanee on Sept. 4 and then plays Mary Hardin-Baylor (Texas) in a neutral site contest in Atlanta on the campus of Oglethorpe University on Sept. 8. The trip concludes with the USA South opener at Maryville on Sept. 11.

Homecoming weekend will see the Scots host a pair of opponents. On Sept. 14, Covenant takes on Birmingham Southern in a regional matchup before the Scots take on USA South member Brevard on Saturday, Sept. 15 at 7 p.m.

The following weekend, Covenant will be back home for two key USA South matches against Averett (Sept. 21) and Greensboro (Sept. 22). The Scots wrap up their September home schedule on the 26th against LaGrange.

The Scots will be home for just three matches on October. Berry visits Lookout Mountain on Oct. 2, then Covenant hosts Huntingdon (Oct. 19) and William Peace (Oct. 20) to end the conference regular season. The regular season finale is set for Oct. 22 at Pensacola Christian as the Scots return the trip that the Eagles made to Scotland Yard last year.

The 2018 USA South Tournament will begin on Oct. 27 with the top four teams in each division qualifying. Divisional seeds 1-2 host quarterfinal round matches on Oct. 27, then the highest remaining seed will host the semifinals and championship on Nov. 2-3.

NOTES:
  • Mary Hardin-Baylor is the lone new opponent on Covenant's schedule this year. Mary Hardin-Baylor advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament a season ago and finished ranked No. 16.
  • The season opener against Tennessee Wesleyan will pit two former NAIA and Appalachian Athletic Conference rivals. Covenant and Tennessee Wesleyan have met 39 times, but have not squared off since 2008. The Scots hold a 23-12-4 all-time edge over the Bulldogs.
  • The third David Taaffe Invitational will once again feature Millsaps. The Majors have participated in all three invitationals.
  • Matches against Brevard and Pfeiffer will count for USA South standings this year. However, Brevard and Pfeiffer are not eligible to compete in the USA South Tournament.

Randy Smith: SEC Picks Week Four

There have been few surprises in the SEC through the first three weeks of the season. One of them however is Alabama. Why you might ask? Well, the Crimson Tide seems to be even better than we all thought. In fact, I don't know if any team in the country can beat them this year. For instance, this week against a top-25 Texas A&M team, 'Bama is a 28 point favorite.  Texas ... (click for more)

The party chose her to go on the ballot in his place, and she defeated Congressman Baker. She was ... (click for more)

Arming Teachers With Guns Will Be Too Dangerous - And Response (4)

Arming teachers with guns in the classroom, as Bill Lee proposes, would be the single most dangerous thing to happen to students in Tennessee history. Students and teachers in close proximity to loaded firearms daily? Across this state, in middle schools alone, there are probably hundreds of student/teacher conflicts a day. What if a student got hold of gun in a struggle with ... (click for more)

Roy Exum: Scream ‘Sexual Assault!’

Candace Owens, a communications director for the conservative non-profit “Turning Point,” wasted not a minute’s time as the Democratic debauchery of Supreme Court appointee Brett Kavanaugh raced like a prairie fire across America. There is little doubt that many politicians -- on either side of the aisle -- play a little loose with the truth. But this Eleventh Hour attack on the ... (click for more)
